Tri city animal sanctuary was started in January 2005 by two friends Vickie and Lawrence. It was their dream to help and rescue dogs and cats in need. What was unique about them was none of the dogs lived in crates or 10 x 10 kennels. It was Vicki's rule that the dogs needed the following:
1. Room to run and be a dog. The runs were 100 x 100 or 50 x 50. This allowed the dogs to run and play. It also allowed more than one dog per yard and that gave a opportunity to see the temperament of each dog.
2. Love and lots of love. Swimming pools for every yard.
3. Food and water. Never being without again.
4. Routine medical care, vaccinations, spayed, neutered, and more medical care as it was needed.
We had originally 21 yards but those are long gone and we currently only have 5 yards. Times have changed and we have gotten older.
Since, then TCAS has rescued over 3500 dogs and cats. In 2012, ASNAP was born. Atascosa spay neuter assistance program. Since, 2012 we have helped get 3,475 dogs and cats spayed or neutered. This is where the life saving difference will be made.
The transport craze as we call it helped us move a lot of our dogs to other states. We have dogs in Washington, Oregon, Michigan, Utah, Colorado, Maine, New York, Pennsylvania, Nova Scotia, Ontario Canada, Kentucky, Iowa, New Mexico, and Connecticut.
In 2021 our co director Lawrence became really sick and we lowered our numbers and closed intake. Our new mission is to help rural communities such as Atascosa county have low cost spay neuter programs for companion pets. The only way to solve the over population of unwanted dogs and cats is to get your pets spayed or neutered.
Here are some stories that have been written on us.
